Devotions

On the road to the Celestial City in Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, Christian stops to rest at the Palace Beautiful. There he meets four sisters— Discretion, Piety, Prudence, and Charity (that is, Love). They listen to the story of his journey and teach him valuable spiritual truths. They also encourage him with a vision of the future (Immanuel’s Land) and outfit him in the armor of God, which he will soon need for his battle with the demon Apollyon.

Hello friends,

Fear may not be something you usually associate with God. But Scripture tells us: “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him: (Psalm 33:8).

What does it mean to fear God? This April, we invite you to join us as we learn what the Bible has to say about how we relate to God.

As our devotional author Dr. Bradley Baurain explains, “Godly fear gives us a proper view of God. He's not our "good buddy" or "co-pilot." His ways and thoughts are incomparably higher. We approach God with awe and reverence. This is why not even Moses could enter the tabernacle when God's presence filled it. As we study this month, I pray you will not only understand what it means to fear the Lord, but draw even closer to Him.”

Be sure to listen to my video interview with Dr. Baurain. He explains what made him think of this Bible study subject and gives some very helpful background information to launch the study. To watch now, go to our Today in the Word YouTube channel.

Thank you for spending time in God’s Word with us,
Jamie Janosz, Managing Editor

P.S. Should we tackle this subject with our children? Absolutely! This month’s family study will help you explain the difference between being afraid of dangerous things and fearing (respecting) a God who loves them. Download your copy of the April family study and share it with those you love!
